Dev Ittycheria, President and CEO of MongoDB, joined Gary Hoberman, Founder and CEO of Unqork, to discuss the critical relationship between data and innovation.
MongoDB has been a trusted partner of Unqork since the company’s founding, and Ittycheria and Hoberman have developed a strong working relationship over the years.
When Ittycheria joined MongoDB, the company faced serious challenges, but Ittycheria could see the opportunity. “You never bet against a company that the users love,” he said. “And when I saw some of the things that were broken, I felt I could fix them.”
“The need for performance, scalability, and rapid iteration was getting more and more intense,” added Ittycheria. “And that’s when we felt we had a chance to really disrupt this industry.”
When the company went public, MongoDB Atlas—the company’s multi-cloud developer data platform—represented 3% of the business. Since then, it has grown to be almost two thirds of the business.
In its early days, Unqork decided to take advantage of MongoDB Atlas in order to focus all its attention on building the Unqork platform rather than managing databases.
“We liked the idea that Atlas was a service that could do what we needed out of the box,” explained Hoberman. “Most importantly, we orchestrate could Atlas such that if we’re gonna be on GCP or Azure or AWS, it automatically stands up with us.”
“Helping people innovate comes down to enabling developers and engineers to build applications in the most frictionless way possible,” added Ittycheria.
