Unqorkers Reflect on What It Means to Be a Woman in Technology Today

placeholder

In honor of International Women’s Day, members of Womxn of Unqork honor women’s achievements, potential, and challenges in technology.

The Womxn of Unqork is an Employee Resource Strategy Group (ERSG) that taps into Unqork’s vast network of women (or “womxn”) to make Unqork a global example for empowerment inside and outside of the workplace and continue to elevate our company as an employer of choice for womxn.

As president of Womxn of Unqork, I am proud to work for a company that celebrates diversity and works to realize the potential of its employees—all its employees.

International Women’s Day is an annual event to highlight and celebrate the achievements of women around the world, as well as the challenges we are still working to overcome. To mark this day, we asked some of our Womxn of Unqork members to share their thoughts on what it means to be a woman working in the technology industry today, and in Unqork in particular.

Tara Hernandez, Senior Talent Acquisition Partner

Being a womxn in 2021 means challenging the status quo and standing confidently in your own skin and your own truth. What excites me about being a womxn in tech is breaking down barriers so that future generations will never know of a time where womxn were underrepresented in the industry.

Lindsay Mortellaro, Senior Accountant

It’s empowering to be a womxn in 2021, especially with all the strong, brilliant womxn leaders in the US. You can be who and what you want to be without anyone telling you otherwise.

I just started in February and already feel very welcome here. I joined Womxn of Unqork shortly and am excited to get to know all my fellow members. I love how hearing other womxn’s stories of how they got into the tech industry and how there are so many more opportunities for girls and young women to get involved in tech. I’ve always worked in accounting at tech companies, so I’m interested in learning about other technical departments in our organization.

Christine Ray, Chief Information Security Officer

Being a womxn in 2021 is flexing our best qualities to help heal a world that has become so turbulent and uncharted. We must let go of the past and those familiar patterns that served us so well to get us here, as their usefulness has faded. Where this future leads us is vast, fast, disruptive.

Being a Womxn at Unqork means being fearless and optimistic in facing the unknown; we stand strong and embrace our diversity to enhance our strengths and lead our business, our teams, and our friends and families through this crazy mess our world has become around us. When the darkness comes and the storms rage, it is the womxn who hold open their arms and protect, and it is the womxn who step out first after the rain to see what comes next. The Womxn of Unqork is my Marvel Comic Superhero incubator. So ladies, let’s go change the world!

Corinne Schmitt, Head of Relationship and Capability Management

I am proud to be a womxn in a fast-paced, rapidly growing company that values diversity, equity, and inclusion. I believe it should be our edict to support our colleagues and the company as we grow. That’s what I strive to do.
