As an Unqork Sales Engineer, Kevin Blackwell is one of the people responsible for helping clients bring their business ideas to life using no-code application development. He helps clients articulate the technical requirements they want, builds the application, and then presents it to the client in a way that makes them want to buy it. Take a look at how Kevin spends his time in between builds:
7:00 AM: I wake up and get my day started. I head off to the gym in my complex and get my body warmed up for the day. Once I get back, I like to warm up my brain with a few games of sudoku and Einstein riddles with a coffee or pressed juice in hand.
9:00 AM: I head into my first meeting of the day and check on various projects that I’m working on. Currently, I’m building out a go-live process. Essentially, you send in information as a client with multiple handoffs between multiple roles on the administrative side until the processes and flows are complete. Then, you can go live with the application. I’m also the president of our Chocolatey ERSG, which is all about Black empowerment and Black success. I’m working on a couple of initiatives for our poetry nights as well as doing some ambassador work.

Before work gets going, I also take this time to get myself organized and plan my day—it helps me stay on schedule and productive. I heavily rely on an app called “Clockwise” to automate my calendar. It’s basically like a virtual secretary, which I absolutely love. I also have a sticky note printer because I like having things in my hand, and I have all of the sticky notes organized so I know exactly what’s due on what day given the color of the sticky note and my pen. I’m very, very picky when it comes to my organization!
11:00 AM: I virtually meet with some of my Unqork friends to have a coworking session. I started these sessions with a coworker who was originally in Chicago, so she only came into the office about once a month. We needed a time for us to connect and unwind but also to work. Within the hour, we chat, have coffee, snack, and work together, all from the comfort of our homes.
1:00 PM: I take my first midday break! Usually, I order my lunch from Tops Diner—voted the best diner in Time Out Magazine 2017—in time to arrive by 1:00 pm so I can either go into the garden of my complex to decompress or play some video games while I eat. I get churro french toast with grilled or fried chicken on the side. If I’m feeling spicy I’ll also order some tres leches with a boozy milkshake.
3:00 PM: After lunch, I jump into an introductory meeting with a client. My portfolio typically consists of insurance companies with a sprinkle of financial services. I love chatting with people and seeing their faces when they see the power of Unqork.
I like to lay out a plan of execution, figure out what steps we need to take to get from A to B, and make sure that I’m teaching them in a systematic way so they’ll truly understand the process by the end of me helping them.
4:00 PM: A coworker pings me to assist them with some complex configuration. 6:00 PM: I wrap up my night by sending a few debrief messages to keep everyone in the loop on where I am with projects, including any updates from clients.

6:15 PM: I pour some wine, get a bowl of grapes, play a few vinyl records—Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue is my favorite—and mentally decompress before I have to start over again!
